July 12: Ahmad Wali Karzai, a half-brother of Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai gets assassinated by one of his bodyguards inside his home in southern Kandahar province. The Taliban claimed that it is responsible for the assassination saying that the bodyguard is one of their men.
January 26: The newly elected parliament was inaugurated.
