Aung San Suu Kyi belongs to the National League for Democracy (NLD) party that won the elections in Burma in 1990. She was however not allowed to Govern.
Burma in 2011
- On January 28, 2011, Burma's highest court has upheld the dissolution of the pro-democracy party leaves NLD and its supporters to be outside of formal politics. Later, the courts in Myanmar refused to reinstate the opposition party of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Britain termed the decision is disappointing
